Decoiling & laser cutting
In this department, production begins with large metal rolls, known as coils. You can think of them as oversized rolls of wrapping paper - only made of steel and much heavier. These coils are first unwound and then cut into suitable sheets. The process is called uncoiling.
As our film stretching lines consist of around 80% sheet metal, the demand for coils is correspondingly high. State-of-the-art laser technology is used for further processing. The laser works like an extremely precise cutting tool made of light: It heats the metal with pinpoint accuracy so that it can be shaped, cut or marked - similar to cutting out cookies, only much hotter and more precise. In this way, flat metal sheets are turned into the exact components that are later installed in our lines.
