Technology Center DORNIER PROTOS® TP Tape Production Line
The DORNIER laboratory line produces so-called composite tapes. Tapes are special flat bands which consist of two main components: fibers and plastic. The line can be used together with the tape weaving machine to process tapes directly. With this production technology, Composite Systems bundles the know-how from our film stretching lines and weaving machines.
What is so special about the PROTOS® TP Tape Production Line?
Information
Thermoplastic or dry
There are 2 different types of tape that can be produced on our systems. Dry tape consists mainly of fiber material that is held together with a binder (adhesive). Fully impregnated tape is produced with a higher proportion of binder material (matrix), which makes it stiffer and keeps its shape.
From thread to roll
The line works according to the “Roll-to-Roll” principle: The fibers are pulled off, processed and wound up again at the end – regardless of whether it is a dry tape or a fully impregnated tape.
High-Performance-Tapes
Whether with a water-based binder or completely embedded in plastic – both tape variants are produced on our systems. This allows us to produce customized reinforcement materials for a wide range of applications.
Tailor-made on the production line
Whether particularly thin, wide or stable – thanks to precise control, the properties of the tape can be exactly defined. The result is a precisely tailored material that later fits the application perfectly.
