DORNIER inaugurates first service centre for film production lines in China

On 23 September 2025, the machine and plant manufacturer Lindauer DORNIER will inaugurate its first service centre for film production lines in China in Anji (Huzhou). This will enable film stretching customers all over Asia to benefit from faster clip overhauls, significantly shorter response times and many other local services in future.
“We made a conscious decision to choose Huzhou because it will enable us to provide our customers in the region even faster with commissioning, maintenance, repairs and spare parts”, says Robert Heger, Head of Product Line Film Stretching Lines China. Since film stretching lines generally operate around the clock, any downtime can result in significant economic losses – fast and competent service therefore is vital. “Being close to our customers is an important part of our tailor-made service solutions: this will allow us to respond even more quickly in future while continuing to deliver the DORNIER quality our customers are used to”, says Mr. Heger. The Huzhou site is located around 150 kilometres west of Shanghai, in close proximity to numerous international film stretching manufacturers and thus to many DORNIER customers.
Clip overhaul on site instead of transport to Germany
A key element of the new service centre is the overhaul of clips. “With the new centre, clips can now be professionally overhauled on site instead of being sent to Germany as it was the case before”, explains Mr. Heger. This considerably reduces transport distances, saves time and money. DORNIER's patented roller clips are a core element of every film stretching line manufactured by the company. As they are subject to natural wear and tear, they must be maintained regularly. Otherwise, there is a risk of downtime and production losses. For this reason, the clip overhaul is a central part of DORNIER service. It ensures that the lines can be operated continuously, reliably and efficiently at high speeds, even with large film widths.
Investing in quality and young talents
In the early stages, service technicians from the DORNIER plants in Lindau and Esseratsweiler will provide on-site support for the development of the new service centre. They will train and instruct the local staff to ensure the highest DORNIER service quality in the tradition of ‘Made in Germany’. “We are specifically focusing on a mix of German experience and local expertise”, says Mr. Heger. The new location is also intended to promote the international exchange of experience. In future, trainees from Germany will gain international practical experience in Huzhou and support the local team.
Invitation for the official opening and future perspectives
The new service subsidiary is to be expanded further in the future: designed as a multi-purpose hall, additional services are planned besides the local clip overhaul. The family-owned company plans to develop these services in close consultation with its local customers. With the expansion of its service presence in the Asian film stretching market, DORNIER is reaffirming its long-term commitment to the region in the year of its 75th anniversary. On the occasion of the official opening ceremony of DORNIER Machinery Co. Ltd. on 23 September 2025, DORNIER is inviting customers, partners and suppliers to visit the new service subsidiary in Huzhou.
